Mixergy is a spin out company from the University of Oxford’s Energy and Power Group. They are developing intelligent solutions to domestic water heating, with an award-winning internet connected smart hot water tank that uses machine learning to optimise efficiency. The tanks also have the unique ability to offer a demand-side response to the National Grid, heating up only when there is an excess of renewable energy generated, whilst demand is low. Wight Community Energy are working with Mixergy on the Smart Hot Water project, installing Mixergy technology into hotels on the Isle of Wight to demonstrate their energy and money saving capabilities as well as their demand side response characteristics.
