Wight Community Energy is a community enterprise – a 3.95MW ground mounted solar park at Homestead Farm to the south of Shalfleet and capable of generating 4,68 GWh of electricity – enough to power 1,340 average homes and save more than 100,000 tonnes of CO2 over the 25-year lifetime of the project. Built by leading cleantech energy company Anesco the site was commissioned on 18th December 2015.’

Wight Community Energy is a Community Benefit Society set up to deliver community-owned renewable energy, energy efficiency and energy supply projects.

WCE is registered with the Financial Conduct Authority in England and Wales under the Industrial and Provident Societies Act 1965 (No RS007234).

The project has been built and registered with Ofgem so that income from the Feed in Tariff is guaranteed for 20 years. It is one of the first ‘split site’ projects in the UK with another adjacent 5MW under private ownership sharing the grid connection.
